Dimensions: 16 x 12 Media: Watercolor on Hot Press Artist Statement : I traveled to Taiwan in 2024 during Lunar New Year. Amazed by Taipei's skyscrapers and it's back alleys called "lanes". As soon I got back to stateside, I painted Lane, wanting to capture & recall the dreaminess of walking through these alley with the sunlight at the end of these alley beckoning for the pedestrians to seek.
Dimensions: 12 x 18 x 1 Media: Digital painting Artist Statement : As I travel, I have been drawn to the bicycle riders that are constant presences, especially in European cities. This image shows a pedestrian intersection, where the crowds meet and traverse the area, overlapping their movements over time.
Dimensions: 25 x 36 x 1 Media: Fiber Art Artist Statement : In public places, especially public transportation, much more of life is often reflected than we realize. Here we see two men of drastically different walks of life entering and exiting a subway car. There but for fortune, either could trade places. We never know what life has in store for us at the next stop or at the end of the line.
Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 1.5 Media: Digital Photography Artist Statement : At a very historic Buddhist Shrine in Japan a young father and mother walk their tiny daughter down a path, mother extending a helping hand.
Dimensions: 19.5 x 16 x 1 Media: Digital Photography Artist Statement : A morning stroll on the "Hot Metal Bridge" in Pittsburgh spanning the Monongahela River. It originally connected the 2 parts of the J L Steel Mill on opposite river banks. Now repurposed as a car and pedestrian connection for the Oakland and Birmingham neighborhoods in Pittsburgh. I was enticed by the bridge structure leading into the background with orthogonal shadows crossing the path and pedestrians striding into their mornings. (The 14 x 11 image is mounted in a 19.5 x 16 mat)
Dimensions: 10 x 8 x 1 Media: Digital Photograph Artist Statement : In a visit to the Pacific Northwest, I had to photograph the Gum Wall in Post Alley. It's such a crazy, funky explosion of color and shape, it's easy to overlook the "eww" factor!
Dimensions: 24 x 18 x 1 Media: Acrylic on Canvas Artist Statement : I spend most days walking through the city. It is generous with images that delight me in their shape, pattern, color, light, and energy.
Dimensions: 8 x 6 Media: watercolor & gouache on paper made from white mulberry bark, with the addition of an old love letter Artist Statement : This work is part of a series, "Vacant Lots Are Full of Stories", based on the idea that so-called vacant city lots are not at all "vacant" or empty of stories. The subject matter in each painting are objects found in one or more "vacant" lots, around my house — lots that were once full of homes, families and individuals who have left shards of their existence, shared and hidden. Those objects hold clues to stories that took place in a history that is now layered: a cigarette pack and several "loosies", a shard of beautiful china, dating to an indeterminate time decades ago, but which recently rose to the surface; a bottle cap from a Mexican soda; and rocks that have been part of this lot for millennia. Lots of layers, lots of stories — but not vacant lots. The paper was made from the bark of a white mulberry tree in a lot near my house. White mulberry, morus alba, is an invasive species that was introduced in colonial times, to create a silkworm-based silk industry.
Dimensions: 16 x 16 x 2.5 Media: Mixed Media/Assemblage Artist Statement : My work explores the relationship between people and the land through the translation of landscapes via various systems and perspectives. These representations reveal how we live, work, and what we value. I incorporate a mix of linear and geometric shapes, combined with divergent perspectives, suggesting the way landscapes are perceived from literal and metaphorical distances. Using GPS, paper, and aerial maps, I address contemporary landscapes, examining their organization, viewpoints, and navigation methods. Repurposing materials from home remodeling and construction projects such as house paint, wallpaper, and wood scraps add dimension and texture to my art, creating a tactile connection to the built environment. This ongoing series reflects the transformation of landscapes and the evolving relationship between people and the natural world amidst continuous expansion and construction.
Dimensions: 13 x 10 x 1 Media: Photography Artist Statement : Light and shade - waiting for shoeshinme customers - and a peek of a barber through the doorway
Dimensions: 13 x 19 x 1 Media: Photography Artist Statement : The server waits for the order as her customers debate their choices and a passerby watches the scene unfold
Dimensions: 5 x 7 x 1 Media: Oil Paint on Canvas Paper on Hardwood Panel Artist Statement : I seek to cultivate a profound connection with the natural world through my Plein Air painting practice. My work combines realism with impressionistic sensibilities, capturing the quiet beauty and enduring serenity of the landscapes around us. By evoking a sense of peace and timelessness, I aim to inspire viewers to pause, reflect, and rediscover harmony in the gentle rhythms of nature.
Dimensions: 28.5 x 38.5 x 1 Media: Digital Photography on Hot Press Bright, Framed under Conservation Plexiglass Artist Statement : One Millionth in the Sense of Yesterday is an ongoing series. This series is a glimpse into my state of mind as I move through and photograph the city. These works are about how although people may live and “see” the city daily, it is not a view they take in - the people become like ghosts in daily life, existing without reflection. Each photo is inspired by the music I listen to as I shoot and edit - lyrics often becoming the title of the work, both giving a glimpse into my state of mind and fitting to the goings on around. These images beg the question: Is it the city that is soulless? Or is it the people who live within its borders?
Dimensions: 36 x 24 x 1.5 Media: graphite drawn directly onto cradled Claybord, sealed with acrylic Artist Statement : Walking down a block just off 5th Avenue, NYC, near the Salmagundi Club, the play of sunlight and shadow on this residential wall captured my attention. The lights and darks form an interesting array of pattern akin to a jigsaw puzzle.
